Two years of Bucharest WordPress Meetup…. and the story goes on!

Dear friends,

The Bucharest WordPress Meetup celebrates its two-year anniversary this autumn! A perfect time to take a look back and remember how the local WordPress community has evolved.

The WordPress meetup was initiated by a group of WordPress enthusiasts and friends – Marius Vetrici, Bogdan Dragomir, Alex Negoita and Cristi Toma – after attending WordCamp Europe in Sofia, in 2014. They came back inspired to share their knowledge and passion for WordPress.

Since then, WordPress beginners to pros in Bucharest gather together on the second Tuesday of each month to learn, contribute and make new friends. These meetings have developed as a vibrant community of over 700 members where everybody is welcome to learn and share. Every Meetup was a real success, with 20 to 60 participants and a real opportunity to learn and develop WordPress skills.

The sessions usually include a technical presentation and a business presentation. Other times, the attenders are challenged to learn by doing in workshops, or in different kinds of give & talk sessions (circle talk meetings, sharing impressions & tips, group discussions). Every time, this space offered support for all type of professionals: developers and business owners as well as non-tech people (entrepreneurs, bloggers and general WordPress users). That’s why, even contributions of ordinary WordPress users are welcome – Mihai Zaharia, founder of bunicel.ro spoke about  how did WordPress helped his jam-making business.

There were also international speakers joining the meetings remotely: Simon Wheatley from Automattic spoke about The business of Open Source, Marko Heijnen, Founder of CodeKitchen spoke about Protecting your site by detection, Dennis Snell from Automattic’s presentation was entitled Playing well with others: writing solid code in large community projects and Remi Corson, part of the WooTeam, talked about WooCommerce WP-CLI integration.

So, technical or non-technical topics were tackled in different format sessions (presentations, workshops, discussions, Q&A). And at the end, people would go to the now traditional beer-between-new-friends.

The story goes on! These meetings are open to everyone who wants to share their passion for WordPress, offering a warm place for networking and education. Wanna-bees or bloggers, developers, designers or online marketing experts, freelancers, employers or business owners – all  are welcome to build further this community.

In the next Meetup (September, 20th) Alex Bordei, Manager Whiz Center Romania, will talk about Connected with the physical world – WordPress integrates IoT elements. And the second part of the meetup will be a good opportunity for sharing knowledge in a Snippet Sharing Session.

These meetings are backed up by a hand of great sponsors: The WordPress Foundation, CrowdFavourite, ThemeIsle and StickerMule. Of course, nothing would be possible without each individual contribution!

Let’s all get together once again for this October’s WordCamp Bucharest 2016! Tickets are now on sale, bring a friend!
